"San Francisco famous South Indian restaurant Dosa completes renovation on Valencia Street with custom-made lighting installation from Pacifica Home Gems."
Dosa owner Emily Mitra commissioned architect designer James Maxwell at "Architects II" to design the lighting for her two world famous restaurants. Pacifica Home Gems executed the stunning oversized chandelier in abalone (capiz) shells and beads for Dosa's Fillmore location in 2010. Abalone shells are harvested then baked at very high temperature to obtain the gold finish and sheen, a process invented in the Philippines in the 1970s. The chandelier with its squared capiz shells in gold finish fills the high ceilings with an elegant yet modern glow. In spring 2011, it was Dosa on Valencia’s turn to be refurbished. Now, 5 chandeliers in gold finish squared shells and transparent beads hang high over the bar area, adding sparkle to the delicious drinks made at the bar. Dosa’s mastery at offering the most authentic and tantalizing culinary experience flows over every aspect of their work.
